Just weeks after England came out on top against Australia in the Ashes, a group of Brits have taken another title away from our cousins down under.
Gourmands at the Balcombe Club in Sussex took the world record for the longest BBQ at the end of August, beating the previous time by one hour. The event saw grilling enthusiasts cooking their BBQ meats from Saturday afternoon right through until Sunday evening.
The Balcombe Club cooked all sorts of meat products for the feat, including award winning sausages, burgers and chicken which had been provided by online butchers. The chefs also provided extras such as potatoes, sweetcorn and bananas. At least two unique items had to be cooking on the grills at a time, with rules stating that five items needed to be on the go in total. This went on for more than 27 hours.
Villagers arrived at the venue to support the group, even though the British weather decided to provide nearly 18 hours of rain. Despite not having the Australian sunshine that was most likely present at the previous record event, the Brits managed to survive and set a new marker. People turned up for every meal of the day, including snacks, and everything was caught on video for the regulators.
Richard Cooper, a member of the club committee, was proud of the cooks and the villagers for their persistence and determination, despite the rough weather, for helping beat the record and raise money for Help for Heroes.
