Every year there’s a new diet trend, and this year the one that’s becoming the most talked about is the ‘caveman’ diet, also known as the ‘paleo’ diet. Based on the concept that humans can survive on whatever cavemen could gather thousands of years ago, this diet consists of fruit, meat, vegetables, and roots, aiming to exclude anything that could be considered unnatural.
This trend is currently picking up in the US, with companies helping to ensure it catches on across the country. This is also paired with the rising popularity of grass fed meats which are generally better for your health than other types of meat. The benefits are being noticed by more people so the diet is, in turn, becoming more widely known.
Back in cavemen days, there were no healthcare systems, pesticides or special ways to produce meat; humans lived on what they could find, learning that good nutrition is essential to healthy living. The paleo diet reflects this basic instinctive need for food and includes natural items like vegetables and grass fed meats. The natural food of cattle is grass, so it makes sense that they’re raised on this; in the past, this is all they would have had available to eat.
Although the paleo diet started picking up a few years ago, it has begun to raise more attention recently due to the increased awareness of the health benefits found to be associated with it, particularly with grass fed meats.
