According to a UK representative of the Western A Price Foundation, the meat we eat is an important part of our diet, and the meat industry continues to play a vitally important role within the nation.
At the ‘Sustaining the Health of the Nation’ conference in May, it was pointed out that studies of tribes in the 1930s highlighted the fact that animal products played a very important part in a healthy diet for them. These tribes were also found to have low dental damage and low disease rates until they were introduced to processed foods and sugar, indicating the most important foods for human health.
The research on the tribes emphasised the importance of meat in a healthy diet, as it provides the human body with the fat and vitamins it needs. Even though vegetables are also part of a crucial diet, they do not contain as high a level of nutrients as grass fed beef and other meats do.
At the conference, it was also stated that the meat industry should promoting the benefits of fatty meats as opposed to lean cuts, as our brains need the saturated fat. Overall, a balance of Omega 6 and Omega 3 is crucial to health, and grass fed meat is much more beneficial than grain fed meats in this area.
With the availability of top quality meats like dry aged beef and corn fed chicken nowadays, there is no reason why consumers cannot integrate that into their meals, and experts emphasise the fact that it is all part of a healthy and nutritious diet.
