Georgia BBQ event draws massive crowds

The Pigs and Peaches BBQ Festival which took place in Kennsesaw, Georgia at the weekend has been hailed a success after more than 60,000 people turned up.

The event began on Friday and carried on through to Saturday morning, with people gathering to taste the various dishes, enjoy the entertainment and watch the competitions.

The festival drew even more attendees than it did last year, and included a range of different acts, many of which provided live folk music. A dance group from Teaching Little Children studio also performed to the crowds, and Slippery When Wet, a Bon Jovi tribute band, played into the night alongside a fireworks display.

As well as the entertainment, the festival drew serious cooking teams aiming to win cash prizes as well as bragging rights. Among the dishes were Lori Cardamone’s famous BBQ meats, pork and, as the festival’s name suggests, peach desserts. According to Cardamone, the competition was intense but fun, as her team won second place last year in the pork ribs category of The Kansas City Barbecue Society’s contest.

Zeigler’s BBQ from Acworth has been part of the event from the start, and the crew started cooking the meats from 2:00am on the Thursday morning right through until the festival was over.

Competitions aside, the festival also allowed attendees to feast on the range of BBQ meats available and look around at the non-foodie projects. Many also used the event to find some inspiration for the next order they place with their favourite online butchers.
