With cooking becoming an increasingly popular pastime, there are many TV shows dedicated to the subject in both the UK and the U.S.
One new programme in the States, MasterChef Junior, has been put together by celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay in the hope of giving young cooks in the country the chance to show what they can do in a kitchen.
According to The Wall Street Journal, more children are beginning to take up cooking as a hobby, with many thinking about taking it to a more serious level in the future. With the rise in popularity, a large number of applications and tutorials have been made available for youngsters to try, and MasterChef Junior will see contestants making everything from chocolate desserts to black pudding.
The programme will allow children from the ages of eight to thirteen to have a go at cooking speciality healthy dishes, all with safety in mind. It is expected to have more of a relaxed atmosphere than the adult version, with those who don’t go on to win being eliminated in groups rather than individually. Ramsay has said he will also be more patient with the children.
It has been said that New York is currently alive with cooking classes for kids, such as Kulinary Kids NYC, which was launched over four years ago by a group of former teachers. MasterChef Junior comes at a time when cooking is a prominent art and children are being encouraged to get involved more at home. No doubt online butchers will see increases in demand once the show starts to provide inspiration for viewers.
