A few months ago, it was announced that the Cattle Council of Australia was developing a new assurance system to provide certification for those throughout the cattle market. On Monday, April 15, the Cattle Council of Australia officially announced the launch at a Teys Australia facility in Beenleigh.
Pasture fed, or ‘grass fed’ beef, refers to beef that has been produced from cattle that have been raised on grass only. This is considered to be a healthy option because of the fact that cattle are designed to digest beef and so live healthier lives. The meat produced from grass fed cattle also contains more nutrients than other types, providing the best for meals.
The Pasturefed Cattle Assurance System is a new arrangement that allows beef producers to provide certified grass fed beef to consumers. According to the council, the fact that Australia is considered the best grass fed beef producers in the world fuels the certification system and gives producers in the country an opportunity to show off their worth.
It is noted that a huge portion of Australia’s beef is of high quality and is grass fed, but this is not easily differentiated by consumers or producers from other types within the marketplace. The PCAs will allow this distinction to be made for these suppliers and consumers using an industry standard that will certify the nature of the beef and its origin. Producers will be able to obtain a certified status from the assurance system by determining eligibility online and paying an admin fee.
